In order provide a habitable planet for our children, grandchildren and future generations, we must limit the increase in the global average temperature to 1.5 °C above pre-industrial levels, as agreed at the International Paris Climate Change Conference in 2015.
The climate is warming because of pollution from burning "fossil fuels" - oil, gas and coal. This pollution must stopped completely by 2050 to stay below a life threatening 1.5 °C temperature rise. And that means we have to keep about 80% of known fossil fuel reserves in the ground.
Climate Action Network West Midlands (CANWM) has developed a "Climate Action Charter" to highlight practical measures we can take to drastically cut fossil fuel use. These measures will also reduce waste, create jobs and healthier, cleaner communities.
The Charter is based on six themes, which we have used in the Take Action! section - Education; Employment; Energy and Consumption; Food; Housing; and Transport.
